Google Book Search
Search for books with full text using Google’s beta Google Book search. Google is literally scanning the entire collection of some othe world's greatest libraries: Harvard, Oxford, Stanford, University of Michigan and New York Public Library. You may prefer to get more specific with Google's Advanced Book Search.

It has different levels of accessibility of full text books: snippet, sample or full book view. The views for each book are based on the copyright and copyright owner of each book. If out of copyright, full view. If publisher agrees, sample view. If a grey area, snippet view. Right now the best results are historical.

ARTFL Project
ARTFL is a cooperative project of the Institut National de la Langue Française (INaLF) of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and the Divisions of the Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Chicago. This evolving site has nearly 2,000 texts, ranging from classic works of French literature to various kinds of non-fiction prose and technical writing. Note: Some resources listed here have restricted access, but most are unrestricted.

CELT Corpus of Electronic Texts

Classics at the Online Literature Library
This site is the personal project of a literature lover and continues to evolve. The texts archived here have generally been copied from sites like Project Gutenberg and converted to HTML documents, rather than left in plain text. Can’t find the time to read that book? DailyLit may be the site for you. DailyLit sends books in installments directly to your email. Each installment of a book can be read in under 5 minutes. They currently offer hundreds of classic public domain titles that can be subscribed to and read in their entirety for free, as well as contemporary books that require a fee.

LOC: Country Studies
From the Library of Congress.
