Search for books with full text using Google’s beta Google Book search. Google is literally scanning the entire collection of some othe world's greatest libraries: Harvard, Oxford, Stanford, University of Michigan and New York Public Library. You may prefer to get more specific with Google's Advanced Book Search.
It has different levels of accessibility of full text books: snippet, sample or full book view. The views for each book are based on the copyright and copyright owner of each book. If out of copyright, full view. If publisher agrees, sample view. If a grey area, snippet view. Right now the best results are historical.

Project
ARTFL is a cooperative project of the Institut
National de la Langue Française (INaLF) of the Centre
National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and
the Divisions of the Humanities and Social Sciences
of the University of Chicago. This evolving site
has nearly 2,000 texts, ranging from classic works
of French literature to various kinds of non-fiction
prose and technical writing. Note: Some resources
listed here have restricted access, but most are

This excellent resource is from the University of North Carolina, Chapel
Hill. The intent of this project is to provide primary sources documenting
the culture of the American South from the viewpoint of Southerners.
You will find narratives on slavery, autobiographies, diaries, and memoirs
archived here written by Southerners of all types.

Archives of American Public Address
Based at Northwestern University, this site archives American speeches
and related documents. The documents vary from John Winthrop's On Liberty,
1645 to Hillary Rodham Clinton's Words to Break the Silence and Then
to Act, 6 September 1995. Douglass can be searched chronologically, by
speaker, by movement or title.

Historical Texts Project This award winning site from the History Department at Hanover
