What are COM Library's hours?
COM Library's hours are listed here.
Where is COM Library located?
COM Library is located on the lower and mezzanine levels
of the Learning Resources Center.
How do I get a COM Library card or
a COM Library Community card?
COM Library Card
Your COM ID is your library card. For COM students, this library
card will be valid for each semester that you are registered; for COM
faculty and staff, the card is valid throughout the length of your
employment.
Community
COM's community card inclues library use and is available for purchase to residents of Dickinson,
Hitchcock, LaMarque, Santa Fe and Texas City (these cities comprise
COM's tax base) in the College's Administration building.
Note to visitors: COM Library is located on the lower
and mezzanine levels of the Learning Resources Center.
My COM library card was lost or stolen.
Where do I report it?
The loss of your card should be reported to the campus
police.
What borrowing privileges
do I have at other libraries? How do I get a TexShare card?
The state of Texas has a reciprocal borrowing program
called the TexShare Card Program. Participating TexShare libraries may extend
free reciprocal borrowing privileges to each other's students, faculty
and staff. You must get your TexShare card from COM Library at the
circulation desk. This may include a range of resources, such as checking
out books and using library computers. See the lending policies of specific TexShare

How do I make suggestions to
COM Library or can I contact people in the library?
You can make online suggestions using our online
survey, or use the Suggestion Box placed at the Circulation
Desk. There are forms
available
to make
suggestions
and
request books.

How can I find out about new Web
pages, resources and activities in COM library?
Check out the latest 3 items from Libary @ COM Blog, in right column on the library
home page, go directly to the blog, or you can actually subscribe to the blog from, the blog page and get updates in My Yahoo!, Google, and more. It's updated at least monthly, and as new features
are added when time
permits.
Can I access the Internet in
the library?
Yes. We have lots of workstations available
to COM Library students, faculty, staff and community members that
access the Internet and online databases that the library pays to access. Please keep in mind that no one under 16 is allowed in the computer area.
Can I do word processing on
the library's workstations? Email and Chat?
Yes! The library's reference and classroom workstations
are loaded with MS Office. You can also do word processing, spreadsheets,
databases,
email
and
chat in
the
Innovations
Lab, room
T-320 on campus.
Can I print out
documents in the library?
Yes. Printing
in the library costs 5 ¢/page, payable at the Circulation Desk. You
may wait until all your printing is completed and pay for all pages
at that time.
Does COM Library make or have accommodations for
students with disabilities?
Yes. COM Library has resources available to those with
disabilities:
A full color video magnifier
A computer designated for those with disabilities
that provides Internet access and access to COM Library's databases.
Students without disabilities are permitted to use this computer
only when it is not needed by a student with disabilities.

How do I get items that were placed on reserve by
my instructor?
You can get reserve items at the circulation desk in
COM Library. You should have your course number and the name of your
instructor to request a reserve, as different instructors may use different
materials for the same course. You are limited to checking out 2 reserves
at a time. Reserves cannot be renewed. Length of check out varies by
item and instructor.
What about the reserve videos and
teleconferences assigned by my instructor?
Reserve videos and teleconferences are available from
Media Services, located behind the circulation desk in the COM Library.
These items can only be viewed in one of Media Services viewing rooms.
Does COM Library have videos I can check out? For
how long?
Yes, COM Library has a limited number of general interest
videos available to check out. These videos can be checked out for
1 week.
Does COM library have Course schedules? Copies of the COM Catalog?
COM Library tries to always have on hand a copy of the
current schedules and catalog, and there is a map of the campus in
the front of the catalog. They are available for use at the circulation
desk in the library.
Can I buy a floppy Disk?
Yes. You can purchase floppies at the circulation desk. They are also sold at the campus bookstore in the Student
Center.
Can I photocopy in
the library?
Yes, copies can be made from both print and microform
formats. There are photocopiers on each side of the circulation desk
of the library. Photocopies are 5 ¢/page. Microform machines are equipped
with their own printers and copies are 10¢/page.
Can I type in
the library?
No. The library does not have typewriters.
Can I get tax forms?
Only through the Internet. The IRS is phasing out it's print form program. Tax forms
are available to print out on the Internet from the IRS.
Can I get change in
COM Library?
Yes. COM Library makes change for people who are paying
for photocopies, print outs, fines, floppy disks or other items, but
we do not keep very much cash on hand so change is limited.
Can I get book bags in
COM Library?
Yes. You can buy book bags at the Circulation Desk.
Where is a telephone?
There are phones in the student center and the administration
building.
Where is lost and
found?
The lost and found is at the circulation desk. Lost ID
cards may be at circulation or at the police department, depending
on the length of time involved.
Where is an elevator?
The elevators are outside the library, across from the
entrance to the library. There is an alternate elevator in the library
which is not available to the general public, but to those with injuries,
disabilities or other conditions that make stair climbing difficult.
This elevator provides access to the mezzanine level of the library,
as well as to the second floor of the Learning Resources Center. Please
see the library staff for the use this elevator.

The closest bathrooms are outside the library, across
from the entrance to the library.
